I guess it goes without saying that the article is long and tedious, and virtually no one will read it all the way through. Those quotes from the book throughout the article are an unnecessary invitation to the reader to stop reading.<p>But I'm really surprised at the sensationalistic journalism. Danny Pearl wasn't "snatched from the streets of Karachi" at random; he was willingly on his way to meet a known terrorist he had befriended. He did so weeks after Dow Jones warned its reporters and editors to stay out of harm's way. I was working for The Asian Wall Street Journal at the time; I remember getting that memo myself.<p>What happened to Danny Pearl was terrible and tragic, no one denies that. But he was as much a victim of his own bad choices as he was the terrorists who killed him. Mariane Pearl's carping at The Wall Street Journal through the Washington Post isn't going to change that.<p>[ October 22, 2003: Message edited by: Gary Kirchherr ]</p>
