It's early, but Bob Greene in the New York Times is this week's worst, for so many reasons.
[ October 20, 2003: Message edited by: blanp ]

How about a summary for those of us who aren't registered users of The Paper of Wreckage?

Like the sun, it's something you can't look at directly. Here's an excerpt:
"If, in the days after the final loss, you walked up to a certain steel grating built into Wrigley's exterior wall, you would see on the other side some items pulled into storage until the spring: heavy green turnstiles. They await an April not so distant. The elevated trains arrive and depart, day and night; they have dropped off and picked up generations at this ballpark, men and women once young, many now gone, who walked beneath the win flags and the lose flags, and who understood that a flapping piece of fabric cannot dictate to the human heart."
I especially like the Times' ID tagline:
Bob Greene writes like this to impress high school girls.

Has Greene gotten an NY Times gig permanently, or was this a guest piece?
