What has most annoyed Brizzi about Davis is his handling of the budget. "We are 37 million people and we are $37 billion in debt," Brizzi said. "That's like $100 per person." (L.A. Times wire)

That explains why they're in debt.

This is just a hunch, what with a job that has me paying more attention to state government than I otherwise might, but a $1,000 (sted $100) per capita deficit strikes me as perhaps the biggest in the country.

New York is likely next, above $9,000 counting state and local debt.

We talking debt, or deficit? New York has a population of about 19 million people, and a budget deficit of about $12 billion. That's about $660 a person, right? Or is my math that off?
