I bet there are literally THOUSANDS of eager young scribes willing to risk death for a chance at front-line journalistic glory in Iraq ... the 23-year-old incarnation of me would have been one of them. I guess nobody wants to be the man responsible for the next Daniel Pearl ... ?<p>My answer to the faintheart from The Globe would be simply this: You go where the news is. Death is a risk no matter where you go or what you do ... whether it's speeding along the highway to the scene of a police shooting, hiking through rugged smoky terrain to interview fighters on the front line of a Western wildfire, or dropping your police scanner in the the tub while washing away the idiocy of bosses like Smith.
