Hurricane fever is now full-blown. Please watch out for the usual hurricane excess, absurdity and banality.

Awww, Phil, the "full-blown" wasn't intentional. Or was it just hot air on your part, while you shot the breeze?

The build-up here started Monday. Four days of above the fold on page one, with warnings that upstate New York could be hit hard. And now?
A forecast for a rainy Friday, followed by a delightful fall day Saturday.

Isabel's Folly limped through southern Ontario after a week-long build-up prompted by one hurricane expert who said it was following the same path as Hurricane Hazel. (1954. More than 80 dead in Toronto.)
One suggested headline today: "The perfect media storm."

When I was a reporter I loved barn fires, train wrecks and heavy weather -- because, unlike house fires, bank robberies and celebrity sightings, they took a long time to get over, so you were sure to arrive in time to take pictures, and there was always someone around you were sure to get quotes from. And occasionally, you got a significant story.
