"Al" of "Al's Morning Meeting" suggests:
It might actually be a news story, this being Labor Day week and all, to do something on how much people steal from hotels. I bet the housekeeping folks have some stories.
***I'm sure they do, Al, but unless the stories involve dead bodies or righteous politicians involved in extramarital activity, they are of no interest. No, Al, it is not a news story, "Labor Day week" notwithstanding.***

For what it's worth, I do take the shampoos every place I go. Last year, I bet my wife I would travel enough that I could go an entire year using only hotel shampoos and not ever buy one on my own. I did it with several bottles to spare. The hotels don't think of that as stealing, do they?
***Don't know, Al. Don't care.***

And what would be the imagined link to Labour Day? Travelling workers are particularly prone to thievery? I can think of a good thousand Labour Day features, and this would NOT be one of them.

The Toronto Star has recently hired the managing editor from the National Post as an assistant M.E. in charge of "ideas." This usually translates into wasting reporters on spicing up wires stores from anywhere on earth or following the previous evening's television news. Also getting lots and lots of charts done with the onus on reporters to dig up trivia rather than news. The A.M.E's latest bright idea was a graphic she ordered up showing the dance steps to the hokey pokey to accompany a lame story about people attending The Ex trying to set a world record for doing the hokey pokey. They didn't but that wasn't revealed until the next day's correction.

This pretty much confirms it.
[ August 27, 2003: Message edited by: dmfugitive ]
