MIDDLETOWN -- Police arrested a Hartford Courant sports columnist Monday after his infant son suffered "suspicious" injuries in June.
Desmond Conner, 38, of 16 Putter Place turned himself in to Middletown police Monday morning on charges of first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor, police said. ...
Courant Editor Brian Toolan said Monday there were no plans for Conner to stop working at the newspaper.
"Desmond will continue his duties at the Courant and we will watch his case unfold," Toolan said. (
Hartford Courant)
***The presumption of innocence notwithstanding, it's hard to see how it can help the newspaper if it continues to run Conner's column as though nothing has happened. A suspension with pay seems in order.***
[ August 05, 2003: Message edited by: blanp ]
