In Rhode Island, their homes might really be in Connecticut<p>By Fred Bayles
USA TODAY<p>HOPKINTON, R.I. — Or is it North Stonington, Conn.?<p>***I have been hesitant to echo Philip's call for an end to datelines. But this lede sure pushes me closer to his camp. It impressed upon me how little I pay attention to datelines -- I had to read this three times to make sense of it. Then again, I should probably be grateful that the dateline here wasn't "HOPKINTON, R.I., OR NORTH STONINGTON, CONN."***

Dateline or not, something tells me
it's one very trite story that follows.

Actually, it was a moderately interesting, if offbeat, story about a border dispute between Connecticut and Rhode Island. As a geography nut I found it worth reading. Which makes the silly lede all the more a shame.

As I was saying. ...
Sorry, but hard for me to imagine such a story,
especially by Fred Bayles of USA Today, could be terribly intriguing. Could you link it? I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I didn't say it was terribly intriguing, I said it was moderately interesting. But as any of my former colleagues who read this board could tell you, I'm a guy who becomes nearly catatonic if you stick a map in front of me. I fall into a happy trance and start looking for bucolic and bizarre place names.<p>But anyway, the link: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-07-21-border_x.htm
