SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- The Army dashed hopes for late-summer homecomings for thousands of Fort Stewart soldiers Monday by announcing the troops' deployment in Iraq has been extended with no return date in sight.
The news outraged families of 3rd Infantry Division troops after both the division's commanding general and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said last week they hoped to have the soldiers home by September.
"They've boldfaced lied to us," said Julie Galloway, whose husband, Sgt. Michael Galloway, deployed in November. "When you get even tentative dates, don't do that to us. Don't pull on our heartstrings that way."<p>***Should that be set as "They've lied to us"?

Hmmm...I've never heard boldfaced...maybe it's a regionalism.

also webster's provides definitions for both words that could make them seem synonymous: Baldfaced= brazen or shameless; Boldfaced=impudent or forward in manner.

First thing i do in such instances is ask the reporter if he/she is sure about that quote.

Ah, could we focus more on the lying and less
on the modifier? I'd hope desk editors would
send more time making sure the story of pissed
off military families gets the proper play.
The small problem with the quote can be quietly
and easily fixed.

From Merriam-Webster online:<p>Main Entry: bold-faced
Pronunciation: 'bOl(d)-'fAst
Function: adjective
Date: 1591
1 : bold in manner or conduct : IMPUDENT
2 usually bold·faced : being or set in boldface <p>Main Entry: bald-faced
Pronunciation: 'bol(d)-'fAst
Function: adjective
Date: 1943
: BAREFACED <p>It's interesting that the first citation for "baldfaced" comes four centuries later. If you think about it, "boldfaced" makes more sense than "baldfaced."<p>[ July 15, 2003: Message edited by: ADKbrown ]<p>[ July 15, 2003: Message edited by: ADKbrown ]</p>

Y'all ever been to Savannah? Read the passage out loud in your best Southern accent. I wouldn't be surprised if she said it right, and the reporter got it wrong.
An easy fix.
