Because this job application process sounds a lot more onerous that I would expect. Posted on journalismjobs.com:

We are seeking a community-minded individual for one of the fastest growing daily newspapers in South Carolina. If you are looking to be handsomely rewarded for your ability to produce results, this position should interest you. Our 11,000 daily in Upstate South Carolina is an award winner with strong circulation and advertising growth. Applicants should be well versed in all aspects of a newspaper and must have a minimum of seven years of experience as publisher or advertising manager of a large weekly or midsized daily operation. A strong advertising background is required. If you think you would fit well within our company, please e-mail the following information along with your resume:

1. Current/past salary for each position held;

2. Ten “business” references (no personal references);

3. A short (one page max.) description of what you have done previously, both editorially and in relation to sales;

4. A list of community groups that you have served in and the capacity of your service;

5. Information regarding what you are currently doing or have done pertaining to the Internet;

6. Copies of reports from your existing or previous company that show how you have grown the newspaper (sales/circulation) in your current or previous positions;

7. If not employed, a statement regarding the reason you left your last employer;

8. And a current picture of yourself.

In these changing newspaper times, we are looking for someone that wants to run a newspaper not only for the benefit of our company, but for our readers and advertisers- something the big groups have forgotten how to do. Salary, benefits, and strong growth-bonus structure are available to the right person. Please email all of the above information to jobs@innova.net and put “South Carolina Publisher” in the subject line.
