Want to be a leader in the changing newspaper/information delivery
environment? Then bring your experience, drive and ability to
innovate to the Rockford Register Star.

We seek a copy (we call it delivery) editor to be a key part of our
18-person desk.

I guess you get to deliver the paper at the end of your "night."

I'm part of a newly designated "delivery desk." I haven't gotten a straight answer as to what that even means, just a lot of manager-speak. As far as I can tell, the idea seems to encourage those who were once copy editors to sacrifice quality of editing in order to focus on "delivering" quantity and immediacy as so-called "aggregators." I've repeatedly refused this notion -- I will not become a "delivery editor."

Sorry to mis-direct this thread, but the title seems to fit a recent occurrence.

Most sources that send my trade magazine press and product releases identify themselves as PR reps, agencies, agents, public relations reps or in similar terms. Fair enough.

In another sure sign of the apocalypse, earlier today I received a rather breathless release of little merit from a company's
"Chief Awareness Officer."

Feh!

Keep fighting the good fight. One day papers will realize that there is no value in compiling random bits of crap from the wires and syndicates to fill the hole news used to go in.

"Journalism" is now so chock-full of stupidity that it makes me happy to be nearly old enough to retire.
