Bootstraper Wanted

Bootstrap Journalism #101: Opportunity to ... establish a work ethic and portfolio while contributing to the production of an award-winning publication: Writing hard news & features, capturing sporting events, taking digital pictures to help frame the stories along with selling ad space and compete on special editions including a summer. ... No sea shells, no life at the beach. Just an opportunity to put one's creativity and multitask efforts--including sales, marketing, writing, design, photography and self-enterprising initiatives. ...

"Bootstrap journalism" = mostly not journalism.

I don't know wtf "bootstrap journalism" is, but a practitioner would be a "bootstrapper," not a "bootstraper."

I've often wondered about the figure of speech, "pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps." Try that, some time, when you're wearing boots, and see how far you rise.

Wow, what I learned in Journalism 101 didn't involve selling ads.

I wonder if there are any publications on Earth that aren't "award-winning."

"Bootstraper" is impossible for me to read without hearing a long "a." That's what got my attention in the first place. The stupid not-journalism job description was secondary.

That the feat is impossible should tell us something about anyone who makes this claim: They're likely to be forgetting at least one other person who made possible whatever success they enjoyed.

I wonder if people who pull themselves up by their bootstraps inevitably go on to become straphangers.

Hey - those of us who take the tube are helping the environment. Don't knock us. (And, yeah, I'm visiting the big city. Ain't no subways back home.)
