Two years ago, we decided to try something a little different. We made our A section strictly local and state news. Why? Because you can get national news anywhere. We want to make our readers and community a prority. The copy desk designs and edits the local, national/world and lifestyle sections seven days a week. The benefit to working here is that you can expand your talents. Our newsroom writes restaurant reviews, movie blogs, shoots video, works with the Web site and on special projects -- all because we want to, not because we have to.

I think it's smart for small-town papers — especially those in markets well-saturated with bigger papers — to shed their wire services. I wish my paper would.

I'm not saying such papers don't exist, but in a job posting this seems equivalent to someone on a dating site professing an interest in "listening to music." These goals should be a baseline standard, not something to tout.
