From the Kentucky Press Association job listings (the job is in Alabama):

Looking for somewhere to flex your creative muscles? The Dothan Eagle is looking for a new designer/copy editor. We like to design great stuff while writing solid headlines and making sure copy is clean.

Two years ago, we decided to try something a little different. We made our A section strictly local and state news. Why? Because you can get national news anywhere. We want to make our readers and community a prority. The copy desk designs and edits the local, national/world and lifestyle sections seven days a week.

The benefit to working here is that you can expand your talents. Our newsroom writes restaurant reviews, movie blogs, shoots video, works with the Web site and on special projects -- all because we want to, not because we have to.

Aside from the misspelling, I don't see much that's nightmarish about this job. I think it's smart for small-town papers — especially those in markets well-saturated with bigger papers — to shed their wire services. I wish my paper would.

Pretty sure that's the best small paper in the state. They don't have a ton to work with content-wise, what they do put out there is as well done as most of what the metros put out down here.

Not to be confused with all those papers out there that prefer shitty design, weak and/or inaccurate headlines and copy rife with errors. I'm not saying such papers don't exist, but in a job posting this seems equivalent to someone on a dating site professing an interest in "listening to music."

These goals should be a baseline standard, not something to tout.

Should be, sure.
