Stafford resident Tracy Bell has officially embarked on a new journey with the Stafford County Sun as she takes the reins to become the paper's next managing editor. ...

As editor, Bell said she will continue writing stories as well as a weekly column. She will also be in charge of assigning reporters stories, editing copy, laying out pages and managing the staff both inside the office and those in the community that contribute stories to the paper.

*** When the papers come off the press, she will load her pickup truck and drop bundles for stores and carriers. ***

Then she'll go to the store and buy a single-sale copy. The cycle of life goes on.

They just described my job. My guess is this is a pretty common job description at smaller daily papers and almost all weekly papers.

With the right support (good systems, adequate staff, capable upper management) it can work, with nothing getting short shrift. Without those things, it's a classic treading water situation.

Forget the pickup. She'll just fill up the saddlebags with copies of the latest edition as soon as it comes off the flatbed press, slip into the saddle and sing out "giddyap!"

Journey? As in:

Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling

Or:

Is it heaven or hell?
They know very well
