As a member of our team you would design pages, edit copy, write headlines and play a role in the daily production of our Web site. And how about take photos, listen to complaints from readers, take subscription renewals and write columns and stories.

As to that Gainesville ad, that's what the copy desk here does, in addition to handling wire copy from budget to page layout. That kind of system doesn't make for very good editing, but I'll wager that a copy editor who can put out decent pages under those circumstances could become an excellent straight-up editor or designer.

Folks calling for those coding skills in editors understand neither news nor technology.
