American English is far more vibrant than Indian English. It will therefore be difficult for Indian journalists to rewrite copy. However, they will be able to handle outsourcing that is limited to simple editing and page making. Also, it will be easier to handle work for a magazine than a newspaper. (The Hindu)

Not that any explanation was given for this. Or for many other suggestions. Many points dodged, such as the need for local knowledge, which is increasingly important as many papers focus more on the local and less on wire copy and more regional and city magazines are published.

Also: Joe Grimm of the Detroit Freep is not going to like how his quotes were used in this.

On the bright side, any world in which writers think they can get away with statements like "American English is far more vibrant than Indian English" is going to need copyeds for a long, long time. Whether it knows it or not.

The story itself tells me everything I need to know about what kind of "editing" they're capable of.
