Sports copy editor -- Do you yearn for a chance to design interesting section fronts in color? Would you like to work where creativity is valued? If so, perhaps your future lies with us, a family owned daily an hour north of Seattle. We’ve won the regional SPJ sweepstakes trophy for fve straight years, so you have the chance to work with pros. And our prep sports focus wins accolades from readers and coaches. The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a broad understanding of sports. Demonstrated expertise in grammar, copy editing and deadline pagination (we use Quark) is required. The shift is nights, Tuesday through Saturday. Send a cover letter, resume with references listed and fve layout examples to: Dan Ruthemeyer, Sports Editor, Skagit Valley Herald, 1000 E. College Way, P.O. Box 578, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Posted 9/15/03
*** The key words here are: "The shift is nights." This is a p.m. paper. So, if you yearn to take calls from coaches and type up prep summaries...

You can also rule out many medium-sized ones. And the paper in question is a morning paper on Saturday and Sunday.
It may be of little comfort, but there are many (most?) papers of a similar size that are more nightmarish than the Skagit Valley Herald.
Please note that I did not say this wasn't a nightmare job.
