Feel free to use a lifeline to a friend to figure this one out:

We're a small, 7-day daily in a fast-growing county that is next door to a metropolitan area and is filled with Southern charm. We're in one of the most beautiful states in the country, where endless outdoor activities abound.

We are looking for newsroom help in several areas. We request a cover letter, a resume and an e-mail address so we can contact you for work samples or general inquiries.

Here's who we want: Have daily newspaper experience. Be enthusiastic, energetic, motivated and professional. Be a team player. We're taking this newspaper to a new level, and you must want to be part of the journey. It is a demanding job but a rewarding one. Your day will start early and will end with a feeling of accomplishment. Some weekend work is required.

Be a person who gives attention to detail, who wants to do the extra. Know AP style. Enjoy and appreciate community journalism that is professional and hard-hitting. Be able to stare down deadlines. Have a genuine dislike for mistakes.

Following are the positions:

COPY EDITOR / PAGE DESIGNER — Know Quark, Photoshop and more. Be creative, willing to think outside the box. Be organized. Be able to plan ahead. Enjoy graphics and art. Give a page life.

AWARD-WINNING REPORTER — Know beat reporting but embrace enterprise reporting. Don't wait for your editor or your sources to come to you. Desire to develop that angle no one has considered. Understand how your stories impact your readers. Be creative, willing to think outside the box.

JACK OF ALL TRADES (Reporter/Copy Editor/Page Designer) — You will edit copy and do page layout part of the time and you will be an award-winning, hard-hitting reporter part of the time. Be organized and able to juggle responsibilities. Know Quark, Photoshop and more. Be creative, willing to think outside the box.

Hoo, boy.

The best way to think outside the box is not to get in it in the first place. This would be a case in point.

Throw in a couple of hours a week selling advertising and the job would be just perfect.

I guess with that schedule you would never have time to get inside the box to begin with.

Get with the program people. Tasks in photoshop are best delegated to people who are not paid as much cash as the likes of us.

AWARD-WINNING REPORTER

How long do you have to win an award before you get booted for slacking?
