The Fresno Bee has a part-time position on its features desk for a rimeditor to edit copy; write headlines and photo captions; and proof
pages. ... Shifts are generally Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. If you meet these qualifications and thrive under deadline pressure, send your résumé and samples of your editing work to ....

*** If you "thrive under deadline pressure," why would you want to work five mornings a week on a features desk? ***

Maybe it's a preprint or an early run with an 11:30 a.m. or a noon deadline?

But folks likely to see the ad would know that the newspaper should know better.

Unless you're covering a Lindsay Lohan luncheon "live," there's no reason for "deadline pressure" for a features section. If the "deadline" is noon, finish the night before.

You'd think it would be that simple. Every place I've worked, though, there were features writers who, like some writers in every section, considered the section closing deadline to be their filing deadline, and their editors refused to disabuse them of the notion.
