Position:
Reporter
Location:
Hudson, New York
Job Status: Full-time
Salary: Not Specified
Ad Expires:
December 18, 2012
Job ID: 1450762

Description:

The Register-Star has an immediate opening for a full-time staff reporter.

The core beat for this position is the city of Hudson — its government, businesses, culture and residents. There will be additional towns to be covered, along with breaking news, features and enterprise pieces. Here, you will do it all.

Strong writing and reporting skills are a must.

Our ideal candidate is someone willing to work hard and go beyond the "official story." We are looking for someone who is aggressive and doesn't shy away from asking the tough questions. Sharp news judgement is critical. Applicants must be able to handle multiple assignments, generate story ideas and develop sources. They must be able to take and edit photos and video.

We are looking for a self-starter that is full of energy and willing to work as part of a team.

The Register-Star is located in Hudson, part of beautiful Columbia County. We are a short ride from Albany and the Berkshires and a train ride away from NYC. We are a Tuesday through Saturday morning print publication and online seven days a week. Visit our website http://www.registerstar.com.

Send cover letter, resume and at least three writing samples to Executive Editor Theresa E. Hyland, One Hudson City Centre, Suite 202, Hudson NY 12534. Or email to thyland@registerstar.com.

No phone calls please.

NB: "Asking the tough questions" does not include asking: Why did the editor stick that nonsense into my story? [Jim Romenesko]
