Albany also refused a "horrible" contract offer, much to the shock of management, that included unfettered right to outsource any and all work, the end of dues collection, the end of union shop, the end of seniority rights of any kind, the end of any job protections, etc. etc, But it did include the right to donate your sick time to ill colleagues and a $500 taxed bonus in lieu of any raises for at least four years...

We're still in talks (I'm the shop steward, which is kind of fun in a perverse way when you're a dead man walking; it gives me unfettered license to be a complete prick). They want to take away our seniority and our holiday pay, among other things. We're willing to discuss those things if everybody who gets targeted for a layoff gets a very generous severance ... as in a week's pay for every six months of service AND a year of employer-paid COBRA.

Y'all mind if I quote Liebling?

Quote:
The employer, in strike stories, always "offers" and the union "demands." A publisher, for example, never "demands" that the union men agree to work for a four-bit raise; the union never "offers" to work for more.

Give 'em hell, Wabberjocky.
