Established NYC music magazine is looking for an offsite freelance copy editor/proofreader to review its Jan/Feb issue. Ideal candidate will have extensive copy editing and proofreading experience and the ability to edit PDFs using Adobe Acrobat Pro. A knowledge of music and pop culture is helpful but not essential.

Most of the 50 or so edit pages are in good shape (some of the layouts have full page images), so this is a low stress gig that will mostly require grammatical tweaks.

Important: You must be available to work beginning 11/13 to 11/18. Only reliable, professional editors should apply with a letter of interest and resume. No form letters or flakes, please.

Compensation: $150

How many times have I heard someone who is not a copy editor refer to something as being in "good shape?"

If they want the editing done on PDFs -- meaning, basically, at the proof stage -- then they better be expecting only small improvements. That's as big a red flag as the price.

Haha, yeah, I remember back when when those of us in paste-up were told an ad was coming "camera-ready." Good times.
