I'm sure we don't want to turn this board into a job service, but I regularly get word of job opportunities, mostly here in the vicinity of Albuquerque but also beyond (cf, Wal-Mart reporter, northwest Arkansas). Most tend to be entry-level, but not always. If you'd like to be on my e-mail list (or know of a student or greenhorn who would), PM me. I just heard of a decent temporary gig with the AP out here.

Times are tough, so it'd be nice to look out for each other.

I can't turn this board into a job service, for a number of reasons. Everyone should run details past me before posting.
We will not publicize jobs unless the employer, the work and the pay are respectable.

I guess that's why you went halfway around the world for a job, reasonable pay? Now you're probably stuck there. Do you actually think you could come back to the US and get a newspaper job?

There was more to it than just reasonable pay. I could, and will some day, go back to the US for a news job. Let's just say the environment isn't friendly at the moment.

I've found that having legit overseas experience makes you more valuable in the job market. I don't see someone of Phillip's skill level being "stuck."

I too have found overseas experience a plus. But does redpen really mean anyone who accepts overseas work becomes a persona non grata in the newspaper industry?

Not that Phil needs defending, but I find the snarkiness of the post baffling. Redpen — are you that sore that this board won't become a job service?

I took no offense.

I don't consider working here necessarily to be a résumé-enhancing activity because of my foreign address. It might be different were I dodging IEDs in Iraq.

Might now be a suitable time for a locksmith?
