From a story in a recent E&P:

"That means that seven 20-something Daily Herald reporters and copy editors blog about topics unrelated to their ordinary beats. So, 26-year-old Sean Stangland, a copy editor, has been chronicling his steps towards grownup-hood by moving out of his mother's basement in Wheeling, Ill. And in "MorningAfter Blog," 24-year-old copy editor Sara Zailskas rhapsodizes about hormonal effect wedding receptions have on single women like herself."

It's good for copy editors to blog, as long as they blog about copy editing. You don't see Nicole Stockdale sharing her angst, menu or other things of interest only to herself.

So if you're a copy editor who's interested in exotic dining, for example, you shouldn't have a food blog?

I sampled them so you don't have to. The first guy is like Jim Anchower without the wicked weed (and, of course, a sense of humor), and the woman likes to pretend she's subliterate. Cute.

Dammit. For some reason, your kind public service had the opposite effect — I finally peeked.

Friday another co-worker is having a "paint-my-new-townhome-and-drink-beer" party. That should be fun. After that I might go see "The Longest Yard," which I'm not expecting much from. Ah, screw it — I'll just go see "Sith" again. Why not?

***This guy lives right on the edge.***

You would object, then, to this blog?

I know I risk some testy-style wrath here, but what's the harm? I think some copy editors need an outlet for self-expression...it keeps us from writing headlines full of bad puns in the name of creativity.

PennaRosa ... agreed. But it should be completely divorced from what they do professionally, as their human eccentricities can only cast legitimate shadows over their credibility as copy editors. We don't want to know that much about the people in charge of deciding what we read in our newspapers. It's simple: The more we know, the less we feel confident that their personal biases won't spill over into their professional lives. And given that they've chose to use a professional site for personal expression, the question of ethically dubious overlap is a fair one.

Jim Anchower rules, by the way.

Wab, does this personal page from theslot about Bill Walsh —"Way too Much About the Author"— bother you? Are you distressed that it links to his non-copy-editing blogs and to his wife's blog? Copy editors are people, too.

It should be obvious that Walsh is an exception to the rule.

Holy hagiography! Are you serious? (No disrespect to Bill intended.)

Walsh is grandfathered.
