Dan Rather's signing off tonight. I'm doing the Nation/World section of my paper. Opinion among the editors is all over the map about how prominently — or not prominently — this story should play. Some say he's a "multigenerational cultural icon," while others say what Dan Rather does or doesn't do does not affect readers' lives or opinions in the least.

Thoughts?

I think a good precedent for your paper's coverage on this would be the coverage it gave when Tom Brokaw also signed off.

Perhaps, but I see no reason to repeat an error in judgment for the sake of continuity.
