I was wondering if anybody could help me with this or maybe point me in the direction of the right place to ask. I'm a copyeditor (for the past 10 months actually; I got promoted to prepress team developer 3 weeks ago)at an STM publishing house and there's something I can't figure out about Russian math articles. Whenever there's a Russian article in the reference list, the page range is always followed with a lone page, like so: 588-600, 643. What does that page represent? Is it a translated abstract? Is it something really well-known in Russian - maybe a tribute to a Russian mathematician or something? I thought maybe the math students would be familiar with this. I would greatly appreciate any help with this; it's not mentioned in any of our style manuals and it's driving me crazy. Thanks.

All I know is that in Russian publications, the table of contents is usually in the back of the volume. Perhaps the lone page is a reference to an index page of some sort?

This is only a guess.
