Quote: NEW YORK — A retired South Ferry station may be temporarily reopened to ease travel for Staten Island ferry commuters following Superstorm Sandy. Sandy caused massive damage to the new $500 million South Ferry station that opened in 2009. It is closed for a three-year rebuilding. The closure has deprived commuters of a major transit link, forcing many to walk several blocks uptown to a catch a train. South Ferry is the last stop on the No. 1 train and a critical link for ferry commuters. MTA interim executive director Thomas Prendergast told a City Council hearing Tuesday that the agency could decommission the old station or bring back the new station in stages. [AP via WSJ]
