City in pink, not red, mayor says
*Hed appeared in Plattsburgh, N.Y., paper. The mayor is one of the nation's few elected Republicans who is openly gay. What do you think of the use of the word "pink"?*

Did the mayor use the term? If he said it, it's fine.

Well, ADK, I think a few decades ago that hed might have been OK.
I did a Google search on "in the pink." The results make it clear that some readers might come to a grave misunderstanding.

Maybe the city is trying to balance its budget by having musical artist Pink perform in a benefit concert ... ?

I asked about this one in the newsroom, and am told that the term "in the pink" is a valid if somewhat outdated colloquial reference to "good health." Perhaps that's what the hed writer meant without realizing there could be an insidious double meaning to it.
ADKBrown ... has there been much public/newsroom fallout from the use of that hed?
