Tonight, I came upon this walk-away quote on the end of a story about improvements at a wastewater treatment plant:
"We should be golden on wastewater treatment for a while," Nielsen said about completing the project.
The writer is one of our better reporters, if just a little innocent.

Reminds me of a lede from a heavily seasoned reporter ... perhaps heavily seasoned in many ways.
The story was also about a wastewater treatment plant. I can't recall the entire lede, but the phrase I will never forget: "an issue that has been swirling around the rim."
I made a rather loud, public protest of that one, not knowing that the reporter was across the newsroom and could hear every word. He did change the lede.

Swirling around the rim? Surely you jest...

I wish it were a jest.
Alas, that reporter writes such gems no more. He's now a city desk editor whose favorite game, it seems, is "see if the copy desk recognizes THIS brief from yesterday's paper."

Yet another...
Touching chaplain story inspires service
World War II Naval ships usually carried only one chaplain. Four were killed in 1943 on the U.S. Army transport Dorchester, and they will be remembered at The Four Chaplain Story service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God Church at 5373 Maxwelton Road...
:::Haven't we had eough touching chaplain stories?
