As bad as all year-enders are, the ones that run after Jan. 1 achieve a special kind of pointlessness.<p>If such a story comes to you, tell the originating desk politely that you're sorry, but it's far too late to run a year-ender, or a "look ahead," for that matter. Last date for year-enders: Dec. 31. Last date for "looks ahead": Jan. 1. Mark your calendars. The dates never change.

	We had an argument at our paper about this very thing. The prevailing side used the phrases "get your shit together" and "you ARE acquainted with the term deadline, right?" several times ....
