Apart from the scenery, what makes Silver Bay so special is the emotional bonds that develop here. <p>*This sentence is grammatically correct, is it not? Or should it be: "... what make Silver Bay so special are the emotional bonds that develop here."? <p>I plan to rewrite the sentence, because both sound terrible, but I can't help wondering about such things.*

I can't quote the rule--something about agreement with object, I think--but the example reads, "What is wanted is a few more pairs of hands." Seems analogous to me.<p>However, I think I'd also recast and avoid it entirely! :)
