(Hearst Newspapers), re: Lott
------------
A wealthy 50-year-old Harvard-trained surgeon, Frist chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee and worked closely with Bush’s top political adviser, Karl Rove, to put the GOP back in control of the Senate in last month’s elections.
Poised and intelligent, Frist’s even-tempered bedside manner won high marks last year when he became Capitol Hill’s leading expert and adviser on anthrax after envelopes containing the deadly virus started arriving in congressional offices.

Nobody teaches anyone anything remotely related to grammar anymore.
I'm going to stop here, before I go off on a rant that makes Dennis Miller sound like a cream puff.
[ December 21, 2002: Message edited by: SusanV ]

Grammatically, I don't think there is anything wrong with the sentence about Frist being a wealthy surgeon. Logically, there is no connection between his medical background and his political appointment. The structure of the sentence, however, might suggest, to some, a causal link. I guess that's the point.
