A faulty boiler and other problems at a District middle school forced teachers and students to wear coats, hats and gloves yesterday as they braved temperatures that dipped to the fifties inside some classrooms. (Washington Post)
***Temperatures in the 50s do not require "braving." This looks like a situation that demanded a note to parents, not a news story.***

I decided to test this out. It is 16 degrees here in New York's Capital Region right now, and I turned my heat off this morning to see just what brave is.
Right now, it is 52 degrees in our humble home. I don't feel one bit brave. The only thing I notice is that I have a 12-pack of Saranac out in the dining room, and it's quite a drinkable temperature, if not a tad too chilled for microbrew.
I guess this is gonzo copy editing. Whenever I read something ridiculous, I'll try to live it.
Or maybe I have spent too many days in the slot lately.
