WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush personally intervened from the White House on Tuesday to set aside a death sentence -- for a turkey.
***Lucky for the turkey, it wasn't a human. Seriously, I wish the media would just decide to stop covering this "tradition." You can bet the tradition would disappear damn fast.***

I was just thinking the same thing about the annual news conference at which "consumer watchdogs" warn about "dangerous toys."

Then, let's stop covering Christmas shopping -- is there a bigger nonstory, at least in November, than "Black Friday"? -- and I say we're on a roll.

It's not universal like it used to be, but pretty nearly so.
