He deserves it. He was a consistent winner for years with mostly horrible teams (the '79 Pirates and '87 Twins nonwithstanding). If Early Wynn was good enough to be elected, Blyleven certainly was.

We've run Bert Blyleven through the wringer a few times here. He finally limped into the Hall of Fame, helped immensely by the backlash against players of the "steroid era." I guess there are worse pitchers already in the hall.

But the reality is that if Blyleven had gotten even league-average run support throughout his career, he'd have between 310 and 320 wins. And he'd be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
To me, this is one case in which stats DO tell the most important part of the story.
